Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Level 3)

If you are looking to become a Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician, the GTA will support you to pursue that career. You will receive training in servicing and repairing light vehicles and will be able to work in dealerships that focus on a particular manufacturer, or in an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles.

The apprenticeship in Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician at the GTA has been designed to be recognised by relevant Professional Engineering Institutions and allows for the successful apprentices to apply for the appropriate level of professional registration (EngTech).
What will you learn?

How to perform routine services, as well as inspection procedures (including steering and suspension and electrical circuits).

Methods to construct and operate vehicle components and systems (including electrical, braking and suspension systems, engine and transmission systems).

Understand causes and effects of different types of faults in light vehicles.

Legislation applicable to the vehicle service and repair industry.

Regulatory and ethical requirements to work within the industry.

Legislation on fitting accessories and vehicle modifications.

Legislation on vehicle emissions legal requirements, including alternative fuels and hybrid and electric systems.
